CBSE has introduced several changes with regard to the pattern and eligibility criteria of UGC NET 2018 which is scheduled to be held on Sunday, July 8. National Eligibility Test, conducted by University Grants Commission serves as a gateway for candidates looking forward to start a promising career as Assistant Professors in various colleges and universities.

In 2017, 9.30 lakh candidates appeared for the exam which was held in November, across 1700 centers. The test is conducted twice a year, in the months of June and December.

CBSE Introduces Changes in Application Process and Pattern for UGC NET 2018.

The changes introduced by CBSE in UGC NET 2018 include:

Hike in Fee Structure:-

The application fee for UGC NET has been hiked by INR 400 for candidates belonging to an unreserved category, making it an INR 1000 from a previous INR 600. Similarly, candidates belonging to OBC category will now have to pay INR 500, SC/ST and others, INR 250 replacing the previous INR 300, INR 150.

Change in Number of Papers:

This year, there will be only two papers instead of the previous three. The first paper will be of 100 marks which will assess candidate's teaching and general aptitude. The other will be of 200 marks, assessing the knowledge of the candidate on the subject of their choice.

Change in the Number of Subjects Included:-

In the year 2014, the number of subjects was 79, in 2016 it rose to 100, and now in the year 2018 the number has reduced to 84.

Change in the Age Limit:-

Earlier, the maximum age for candidates applying for JRF was 28 years, which may be relaxed for up to 5 years in case of SC, ST, OBC, physically handicapped, visually handicapped and female candidates. But, this year the age limit has been increased from 28 years to 30 years.

The candidates applying for UGC NET 2018 are advised to keep the changes in check. CBSE is likely to introduce certain changes in CTET 2018 as well. The likely changes to be followed up in the exam includes the change in syllabus.
